UPDATE (17/4/08): The tutorial below is no longer relevant if you have upgraded to Pwnage v1.1. An updated post will be on the way, probably early next week.
Digg this
- http://digg.com/apple/Create_your_dream_iPhone_iPod_Touch_Firmware
So I’ve had a bit of a play around with the new Pwnage tool for ‘pwning’ your iPod Touch or iPhone, and while the tool itself is a little boring, it opens up a whole new world of things for your friend in your pocket.
To start off with, I’ll walk you through adding applications (games, tools, etc) to your custom IPSW file.
But.. why?
Picture this - disaster strikes and you have to restore your iPod. But you’ve set it up just the way you like it - you’ve got games, tools and more on there. If you have to restore it - it’ll go back to factory fresh condition - you’ll lose everything you’ve added.
But this is where custom firmwares would come in handy. Simply make your own dream firmware, then when you restore it to your iPod, everythings there, without you having to download everything again.
Interested? Full instructions after the break!

Not that most of you would really care, but I’ve upgraded my blog to the new WordPress 2.5.
Most of the changes are behind the scenes, so you wont get to see the awesome new setup for everything, but i’ll say that it looks a damn lot better than the old UI.
Also nice, was that all of my plugins & the themes worked after the upgrade, unlike a few other people.
I’ve also made an about page (look for the button near the top!), so you can read up on the one and only me.
If there’s anything you’d like to add, just leave a comment!
Cheers,
Beau
So I had some videos pulled from YouTube earlier today.
Something that may interest some of you

Basically, earlier in the year I uploaded a dodgy home video of Brighton’s ‘Escalade’ performance for last year’s Rock Eisteddfod, and a direct rip of Streaky’s ‘Looking Forward’ performance from the DVD that was supplied to the school.
So wait - ‘Rock Eisteddfod Challenge® and J Rock™’ own the footage that I filmed? They own Brighton’s performance? It’s just… silly. Sure - I’d expected the DVD rip to be pulled, but not my own filming.
Meh, but I’m too lazy to send in a counter notice, so things can just stay as is, at least for now.
Oh, and we’re still waiting on the damned satellite installer - now the say they’re waiting for a 1.2m dish. It shouldnt take 5 weeks for a damn dish anyway. >.> Hopefully I wont have to wait much longer though!

So it’s been two weeks since my last post - too long in my opinion!
I’ve unfortunately been sick for the last few days, so I was lucky enough to score a few days off school, so that was good. Except I spent most of it sleeping. But that’s always good, right?
In other news, we’re finally making the move to broadband this Thursday (27/3). The ISP is SkyMesh for those of you that were wondering. Oh, and we’ll be on the SAT4 Plan. Only thing that could be a problem is the 1GB Quota, and after that being shaped down to 28/28. Which I guess is okay, since it *should* be faster than what we’re on now. And it’ll be on 24/7.
Another thing that’s coming is the new pre-n Apple AirPort Express that I ordered Tuesday, so should make it’s way to sunny Streaky Bay around Wednesday next week (before the satellite gets installed hopefully!), and after playing around with it I’ll probably get around to doing a mini-review or something on it.
I’m absolutely hating school at the moment, to start with our bus driver’s a total bitch. ![]()
I’ll probably elaborate on this on a further blog anyway, so you’ll just have to wait!
I’m also going to make a ‘What I Use’ page, something like what Paul Thurrot’s got up here.
And one last thing - you can now stalk me with one easy site - FriendFeed :-). Take a look if you want and subscribe if you feel the need.
Well that’s enough for now hopefully!
Cheers,
Beau
